Newest Completed Page Spreads on Practical Magic Altered Art Book

I completed the third page spread relating to the Aunts with a second Aphrodisiac Tea recipe. I also left in the original Irish recipe page that deals with making a good cup of Tea.
I'm working on the pages that deal with Gillian.
I finished the first spread and am now working on creating my version of the Spell page from the original movie BOS that had the spell they used to bring back Jimmy.

Practical Magic Altered Art Book- Page Spreads 2 & 3

We had a full weekend with the Grand boys, ages 6 and 3. They are very early risers at 6:30am. Now I know that's not early for a lot of people but when you are a night owl like myself, who usually rises around 8:00am, at 6:30 in the morning  it's still dark outside, for crying out loud!
I took snatches of time to run down and look at the different Party goers blogs and I still haven't made it around to every one's.   I loved all I saw and I have to say Anna, you are a wonderful hostess.
By the way thank you for letting me use your party invitation in my Altered Book.

I worked yesterday on two page spreads. I decided to start with the Aunts and their love spells. I wanted to give the page a Victorian feel, using laces, hearts, stamps for and from love letters and the mourning dove feather I found on a walk about the neighborhood last summer. I also included a pink pearl end hat pin.
I posted two photos of this page spread as I wasn't  sure which one would give you a better view.
The aphrodisiac drink recipe is copied from the original  Practical Magic Book of Shadows.

The book I am altering I found at the  Goodwill. It is a little book of Irish recipes.  I'm saving some of them as I rip out the extra pages. One of the recipes I am using for the book is for Buttermilk pancakes.
Don't you think it needs to be included?

Today's the day!! Practical Magic Blog party.

Last night Hubby and I sat down to watch the movie. It's not exactly like the book but both tales are great. I loved seeing a movie where the women are strong and love and help each other.  I just love the Aunts, don't you!!
This movie made smile, laugh out loud and wish deeply for some close witchy friends, who would live near by. For dessert last evening I picked up on impulse some brownies.

I'm working on my Practical Magic Altered Art Book party favor, please let me know if you want your name added to the list as a possible winner.
I've researched the Book Of Shadows used in the movie and found some pictures of it's pages. I'm using what I found as inspiration for my book.
I have even collected several Dove feathers, one of which I'll add to the book
But in the mean time I've gotten my broom out and I'll be flying around, dropping in on other Party revelers!

Practical Magic Altered Art Book

Even though I may not get to blog hop for the Party, I did want to let everyone know that I am working on my Party favor.
I'm creating an Altered Art book to commemorate the occasion. Here is the cover and first page spread, more to come.

Life always seems to get in the way of things that I want to do!
It turns out Hubby and I will be babysitting the Grand boys on Saturday evening the 24Th.
I may have to miss the Practicle Magic Party,  I'll just have to play it by ear.
I had forgotten we had said we would do this. My son and daughter-in-law are running in a Half Marathon on Sunday and will be traveling to a different state.

Sometimes you must go back to the basics to get inspired again. I was sorting out the crayon box I keep for my Grandsons and decided to separate out all the orange and rust shades.
I put them in my saved sweet potato can.
I think it looks really good, don't you ?!

I think I'm taking up childhood dreams, wishes and time telling again.
I realized that today I am 56 years and 7 months old.
I'm really considering having a monthly birthday by giving myself a little present, permission to do something just for myself whenever the 20th rolls around.  Sort of like an unbirthday in Alice in Wonderland.

Lighting a Candle

When ever this time of year rolls around, I find myself having very mixed emotions.
I'm high with the feel, sight and smell of autumn. The sun seems kinder and the wind is delightful blowing across my skin and ruffling my hair as it passes.  The plants and trees are showing off their fruit from their summer labors.
But, I know the days are getting shorter and winter will be arriving soon. I notice a small whisper of sadness floating among all those wonderful smells of Fall.
So today I'll light a candle and think of all the things that I am grateful for and go out and enjoy this day what ever it may hold for me.

Halloween , Altered Art Book

I'm writing a story about a young girl who goes off to attend an Academy called Bramble Wood Hall for apprentice witches.
I decided to create a Halloween altered art book to get my creative juices flowing. This is the first spread in the book.

September Harvest Moon

Last September I was visiting my Sister-in-law in Santa Fe N.M during the Full Moon. I had never until then watched the Moon rise from the horizon. Living and growing up in the Midwest there's always been trees, house tops and other buildings that have obstructed my view.
But watching Selene rise above the Sangre De Cristo mountain range was breath taking. She peeked over the mountains in all her golden glory.  When she cleared the mountains Anita and I toasted her with a wonderful white wine that tasted just like a crisp Granny Smith apple.
Yesterday, my husband , brother, sister-in-law and I were sitting on the porch of the little cabin we had rented for the weekend in Gatlinburg Tennessee, drinking wine, sharing good conversation and watching Selene making her September debut again.

Wonderful Halloween Images

I've been collecting and downloading Halloween and Fall images when I come across them. Some came from a great blog called Magic Moonlight Free Images. I also included a mixed media painting  of mine which I call Autumn Leaf and a Quilted Canvass painting I created of Catrina for last year's Dead of the Day celebration at our local Art Center.

Last October I hosted my first Halloween/Fall Celebration party. I spent two months working on the decorations, planning the food and anticipating how much fun it was going to be.
I found a small metal Witches Hat lantern at my local Goodwill that I refurbished. I scoured the shelves there looking for black hardcover books that had magical seasonal titles, which I used to decorate my fireplace mantel and give my party a literary theme.
I bought a whole flock of crows to perch on the tops of my counters and bookcases.
I also constructed my besom from ash and willow branches that I had picked up when I took walks in my neighborhood.
My party was a success.
This year I'm thinking to do something smaller and more intimate, possibly with a games theme.
The photos I've been posting lately are from last years party.
