Green Man Soft Sculpture

I completed my Green Man  soft sculpture yesterday and began working on sprucing up my altar for Spring. I'll be adding touches and flowers as I go.

Green Man

The inspiration for this drawing was a stone mask in the architecture of a building on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.

Cups and Tulips For a Rainy Day

It's been doing a soft gentle Spring rain all day.  There are small puddles in the neighbors yards and along the walk path.
In my Craft books we are told to work our rites with spring water. But we are cautioned about bottled spring water due to the fact that it may not be just that.  One book advises visiting a stream near you. Unfortunately the nearest stream to me doesn't look all that good.  I pondered a while how to go about solving this problem.
I was looking out my laundry room window watching the raindrops dripping from the tree branches when I knew immediately what to do.
I now have a nice old crock setting on my slate stone patio catching water from the heavens.
One thing I have learned about being a solitary is the art of making it you're own. I believe the magic is stronger when you do.
Don't you?!

Sunday, March 13th, Basic Correspondences for Sunday

There is so much to learn when one decides to follow the Path.
Having just had my Year and a Day anniversary, I look back and see how far I've come and how much  more I want and need to know.
So like Kindergarden one starts with the basics such as the history behind the days of the week.
Sunday comes from the latin, Dies Solis, ("sun's day") The Sun was considered a planet in ancient times so therefore it has a symbol, a circle with a dot in the center.
The Deities associated with Sunday are Helios, Sunna, Brigid.
The metal is Gold.
Colors are gold, yellow and yellow orange, neon shades of orange and yellow along with hot pink.
Stones and Crystals are carnelian, tiger's eye, diamond and quartz crystal.
Essential oils are bergamot, calendula, carnation, cedar, cinnamon, frankincense, orange and rosemary.
Foods, Herbs and Spices- orange, cinnamon, rosemary.

Ellen Dugan's Book of Witchery: Spells, Charms & Correspondences for Every Day of the Week is where most of the info. above came from.  It's a very helpful book to have.
Another book that is a good starting place for beginner's is Scott Cunningham's Magical Herbalism.

Moon Goddess Painting and Doll Reworked

I tried two different lighting settings. I'm not sure either photo does the painting justice.
Here is my Moon Goddess redone as well.

The Green Man, I am in the process of beading his leaves

Moon Goddess Painting

I have been working on two soft sculptures, a Moon Goddess and a Green Man.  I got to a certain point with each doll and wasn't sure where they needed to go but knew they weren't finished and I set them a side.
While I was creating them I realized I wanted to do a painting of each doll too.
I began the Moon Goddess painting , got as far into the painting as you see above and stopped.  It wasn't finished and I needed time to study it and figure where it wanted to go.
It's been several months now since I began them and today I had a sort of break through.
The painting started talking to me and the first thing it showed me was that I had painted the spiral counterclockwise and not clockwise.   First I sat down and rebeaded the doll. I then painted out the spiral in the painting and repainted it in the correct way.
I wanted a night sky, milky way look to the background of the painting.  I also wanted the three small drawings to pop more.
I painted most of the afternoon and I think I now have the painting where I envisioned it.

Sun Starved - March 8th, Tuesday

Today the Sun shone in other places,
In other skies.
But not for me,
She passed on by.
But as She set to leave ,the tease,
lifted her skirt of clouds
And flashed their rose colored lining.
Leaving me longing, hoping, pining.

An Ode to Spring, March 7th

The chain on the schoolyard flagpole
beats a steady refrain.

The wind comes blowing, rushing by
smelling of new plowed fields, fresh flowers,
and rain.

Raindrops begin to fall gently, drumming
dusty windowpanes.

Birds gather in tree tops chirping a
crescendo welcoming chorus.

Spring is arriving in her pastel petaled
gown and is glorious.
