Gaia, Earth Goddess- Earth Day-Abundance

Today being Earth Day I thought I'd share with you a book that was recommended to me by E. at Witch of Stitches. It is The Goddess Path, Myths, Invocations and Rituals by Patricia Monaghan. In it she shows you twenty different aspects of the goddess. You use the book to create meaningful rituals and to foster growth in neglected or blocked areas of your life.
The first Goddess she introduces you to is Gaia: Abundance. I found much food for thought and insight into some of my childhood upbringing. I've just gotten into the book and I can already tell I'm going to get a lot out of it.
If you haven't seen this book I recommend picking up a copy and checking it out.

Gaia
Of her I sing, the All-Mother,
old and rock hard and beautiful.
Of her I sing, the nourisher,
she upon whom everything feeds.
Of Gaia I sing, Whoever you are,
wherever you are, she feeds you
from her sacred treasury of life.
Bountiful harvests, beautiful
children, the fullness of life:
these are her gifts. Praise her.

The wide blue sky wants to penetrate the earth.
The earth longs for utter union. Look: it comes!
Rain falls. Rain falls as sky meets earth.
Rain falls. Earth bubbles with life.
Life springs forth from the damp soil,
flocks of sheep like clouds, oceans of wheat.
All gifts for earth's children. And one more:
peace. Peace that blossoms in a rain of love.

Earth, holy mother, source of nature,
you feed us while we live, hold us when we die.
Everything comes from you, everything returns to you.
What else could we call you but Our Mother?
Even the gods call you that. Without you
there is nothing. Nothing can thrive, nothing can live
without your power. Queen and goddess, I invoke you:
you are all-powerful and my needs are so small.
Give me what I ask and in exchange, I will give you
my thanks, sincere and from my deepest heart.
